What is Oral Appliance Therapy?

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a non-invasive treatment designed to manage mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and reduce snoring. Unlike Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines, which require wearing a mask during sleep, OAT involves the use of a custom-fitted dental device that you wear comfortably in your mouth. This device works by repositioning the jaw and tongue to keep the airway open, ensuring unobstructed breathing throughout the night.

Custom Oral Appliance Therapy for Snoring

For patients diagnosed with primary snoring, oral appliance therapy is a highly effective and comfortable treatment option.

We commonly provide Avant oral appliances, which are designed to gently reposition the lower jaw forward during sleep. This helps maintain an open airway and reduces the vibration of soft tissues that causes snoring.

Benefits of custom snoring appliances include:

  • Comfortable and easy to wear
  • Custom-fitted using digital impressions
  • Portable and convenient for travel
  • Non-invasive alternative to other treatments

Appliance Delivery & Adjustment

Once the appliance is fabricated, patients return for a delivery appointment where Dr. Tamara ensures proper fit and comfort.

Adjustments may be made to optimize the position of the jaw and maximize snoring reduction.

Follow-Up Care

Follow-up visits allow us to evaluate improvement in snoring symptoms and make adjustments to the appliance if needed.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable and effective solution that improves sleep quality for both the patient and their partner.

If snoring symptoms suggest possible sleep apnea, patients will be referred to a sleep physician for appropriate testing before treatment.
